Finding the perfect space for your business

Finding the perfect space for your business

Sure, location is important but it’s not the only factor in creating the perfect space for your business. It’s a balancing act and you have the needs and wants of three parties to consider – your customers, your staff (including you) and your business itself. Admittedly, you can’t please everyone but you can do your best to consider their needs.

What do your customers want?

If your business model requires your customers or clients to physically visit your business, convenience will be the most important factor for them. This includes location, availability of parking and ease of access. You’ll also want to think about the look and feel of the environment and does it give the right impression about what your business is and what it stands for?

What do your staff members want?

Like your customers, your staff will also want convenience, parking and easy access. If a central location isn’t possible and if parking is a challenge, consider the access to public transport. Is there a bus stop nearby, a train station? Your employees will probably also like to be close amenities, like good coffee, a gym, maybe a supermarket. Finally, everyone likes a nice environment to work in, a view, open areas, offices, natural light, heating/cooling, enough room, privacy, collaborative spaces. Think about how your employees work best and what environment might help them achieve their best.

What is good for your business?

This is more about the physical building, the infrastructure and assets. What technology do you need access to? How secure is the space? How well positioned and connected is it to your key clients and suppliers? What sort of spaces do you need – warehouse, yard, offices, etc? And last but definitely not least, does if fit your budget?

When you’re looking for a new home for your business, there’s a lot to consider. If you have the luxury, take your time. The right space is the one that helps your business to thrive and it’s worth getting it right. More on how to choose the right office space
